Breakfast with the Bakkerswerkplaats
Getting off to an active start at the Bakkerswerkplaats in Katendrecht

What happens when you view the city through the lens of a social bakery? At the Bakkerswerkplaats, they bake bread, cakes, and cookies with a social mission. The bread is the means. The goal is for everyone to be able to work with dignity, in a place where you matter and where your talents make a difference.
During the IABR, Bakkerswerkplaats invites you to experience this up close. No long breakfast table—just a morning where we get right into the action. You’ll be welcomed with coffee or tea and a treat from our own bakery, such as a croissant or a coffee butterfly.
Behind the scenes
After that, they’ll take you on a tour of the bakery. You’ll see how they work, how they organize things, and most importantly, why they do it that way. It’s not a presentation, but a behind-the-scenes look. You’ll see what it means when a bakery doesn’t just produce goods, but also gives people the chance to get involved, grow, and take pride in their work.
Investing in what has value
Behind everything Bakkerswerkplaats does lies a different way of looking at things. Too often, things are judged by what they cost, and not enough by what they’re worth. They invest in people, in craftsmanship, and in the neighborhood—and the results of that investment can’t always be captured by a price tag. What does that look like in practice? What does it require, and what does it yield?
A conversation about systemic change
Building on that practical experience, we’ll engage in a conversation together. What does systemic change require of social entrepreneurs? What role does the local community play, and what happens when a neighborhood is not just a user but also a co-creator of the city? What works, what’s problematic, and what do we need from one another?
We invite everyone to engage in conversation with one another.
The entry to this event is free.
The spoken language is English and/or Dutch.
