SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT Exhibition

Welcome to the former Hunter Douglas factory halls. This place breathes history, while the future remains wide open. From this location, the 12th International Architecture Biennial Rotterdam (IABR) poses an important question: how do we reshape our world socially and spatially? With the exhibition SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT, we showcase the major challenges of our time. We must start living, building, and dwelling differently to make our environment healthy, just, and future-proof. The challenges we face are not new, but originated in the distant past. Worldwide, nature, the economy, and society are under pressure. With all the resulting consequences, cities, landscapes, and buildings are also suffering from changes in the flows of water, energy, and raw materials. This is largely the result of reliably rapid economic growth, with the depletion of the earth and social injustice as a consequence. Hence the urgent appeal: SOS. In these historic factory halls, we give a voice to designers who move beyond short-term thinking. They do not let themselves be held back by the daily grind and create space for innovative ideas for the future. In a creative way, they show how things can be done differently: no financial interests for a small group, but solutions from which the entire society benefits in the long term.
