Cycle along the Maas with Miriam Sentler
Join artist and researcher Miriam Sentler for a bicycle journey through Rotterdam’s energy landscapes, from Give a Bike in the Schiehavenhallen to the Piekfabriek.

We’ll start with a welcome from Give a Bike founder Martin Trčka, exploring the relationship between cycling, mobility and the oil industry. After a look at historical bicycles and a pop-up exhibition on feminism and cycling, we’ll set off along the Maas and across Rotterdam’s bridges.

Our destination is the Piekfabriek, where Miriam’s work Energy Islands (2026) takes centre stage. The new tapestry — the third part of a triptych exploring the relationship between the energy industry and mythology — premieres as part of the exhibition IABR 2026 SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT. The work draws on Miriam’s research and fieldwork in Orkney and Shetland.

The tour also launches More Than Bike Tours, an initiative by Elmer de Vos exploring more regenerative ways of experiencing the city through cycling, local stories and places.

A limited number of bicycles are available, but we encourage you to bring your own bike or rent an OV-fiets. Bringing your own bike also gives you the freedom to stay longer at the Biennale after arriving at the Piekfabriek, without having to cycle back with the group.

Admission to the event is €20 (a ticket for the bike tour also grants access to the exhibition).
The event will be held in English.
