Open Biobased House – Farm De Vlakkenburg

The old farm De Vlakkenburg has been renovated into a sustainable and temporary multifunctional building. Be welcome on Sustainability Day at the Open Biobased House!
The starting point for the renovation work is bio-based construction, in line with the goals included in the Streefbeleid of the Gebiedscoöperatie Buijtenland van Rhoon. In addition, the building should be able to fulfill another function quite easily in the future.
Biobased construction is better for the environment and healthier for people, plants and animals. Contractor company Van Leeuwen carried out the renovation because they have a lot of experience and affinity with 'sustainable construction'. RoosRos Architects supervised the renovation. For example, they used cellulose as an insulation material, a natural product that ensures a comfortable indoor climate. There is bio-based paint on the walls that can breathe, timber construction has been used in the stair construction and of course the entire farm has been rid of gas. Finally, the animals that live in and around De Vlakkenburg have been taken into account.
The farm is multifunctional and will include space for makers such as De Vaanbrouwers, beekeeper Myriam and perhaps for the production of oat milk. Of course, there is something to taste and drink!
In the future, a visitor center is expected to be built at one of the gateways to the Buijtenland van Rhoon. Until then, De Vlakkenburg will fulfill part of that function and the former farm, in addition to its office function, will have a suitable space for receiving groups and organizing meetings and educational activities.
