Bike Tour through the Bee Landscape of Rotterdam

The municipality of Rotterdam makes 40 hectares of bee landscape. Bees, butterflies and other small animals profit from the bee landscapes. During the IABR we will visit a few locations of the bee landscape. Zeger Dalenberg, strategic landscape designer and Joni Reijven, projectmanager Biodiversity, both working for the Municipality of Rotterdam, will take you on a bicycling tour to visit some places and explain about the design, maintenance, ecological value and more. We will start at Burgemeester Oudlaan, where an area of about 1.000m2 flower seeds are planted. This has resulted in a paradise for wild bees. About 40 different species of native flowers are planted, matched with the soil properties and the region. This ensures food provision for bees. From there, continue to the Burgemeester van Walsumweg and other smaller initiatives. We end at the Gordelweg, an almost 2 km long field of flowery grassland in Rotterdam North. The municipality also maintains this field by mowing in a ecological way. This means that maintenance is customised so in each season there will be enough grass and flowers.
The spoken language is Dutch and English.
