Expedition on the Green Connection

Take a walking tour along Rotterdam West's ‘Green Connection’ from Schiemond to the Spoortuin. This route epitomizes ‘the nature of hope’ in a way few other areas can. Nature functions here in a dense urban environment as the connecting structure of a diverse network of people, initiatives and spaces. It showcases how the city can combine (by careful design and/or a hands-off policy) the benefits of the physical properties of urban nature (such as water retention, cooling properties, biodiversity) with a wide array of social benefits, such as sense of belonging, the experience of beauty, room for play and discovery, mental health, small scale food production and social cohesion. The Green Connection showcases the potential and power of networked organsations in the development of social-spatial initiatives and urban nature in general. The tour will take you from the challenged but oddly majestic Schiemond area to the Dakpark, along the historic Spoordijk Spangen to the Essenburgpark. On the way we will meet different human and non human personalities of the Green Connection.
The tour will be both in English and in Dutch.
The event is free. Registration is not required, but can be done by sending an email to info@degroeneconnectie.nl.
