Final presentation IABR research atelier Jeux des Joules

The transition to renewable energy has significant spatial implications, from urban planning to infrastructure and energy production. This energy transition not only offers opportunities for a new energy economy and social cohesion, but also brings with it the urgency of adapting the energy grid to meet growing energy demand. As a result, thousands of new transformer stations and heat transfer stations will appear on the streets in the coming years.
This is why the IABR has set up the Jeux des Joules research studio in collaboration with the municipalities of Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Utrecht and Delft. After a preliminary study by Bright, two multidisciplinary design consortia led by Chris Kabel and OFFICE KGDVS spent seven months conducting design research into the possibilities for a new, better standard for the "utility house". In monthly working sessions with a diverse group, including representatives from Batenburg, Eneco, Liander, Siemens, Spijkerman, Stedin and Vattenfall, their ideas were honed to daily practice.
During the final presentation of Jeux des Joules, we will share our research findings and lessons learned about collaboration, design flexibility, innovation, and managing complexity. These insights are crucial for establishing a new standard.
