A new workspace has opened in the Nieuwe Instituut: Future Studio Oostkop. This atelier is a place where everyone interested in contributing to the spatial future of the Netherlands is welcome. Whether it’s about the street, the neighborhood, the city, the region, or the entire country, the atelier invites designers, policymakers, and creative thinkers to explore solutions together for now, the near future, and beyond. Topics can range from mobility and healthcare in urban areas to green spaces in neighborhoods, water safety, and nationwide spatial visions.
The atelier is an initiative of the College of Government Advisors and the Nieuwe Instituut, in collaboration with AIR, IABR, the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, the Creative Industries Fund NL, and the Deltametropolis Association. Alongside fostering collaboration, the atelier provides access to the Dutch National Collection for Architecture and Urban Planning, a valuable resource for inspiration and reflection for all participants.
Future Studio Oostkop builds on the exhibition The Netherlands on the Drawing Board, which was on display at the Nieuwe Instituut in 2023-2024. This exhibition brought together designers, policymakers, and the public to reflect on the future of the Netherlands. With this new initiative, we aim to carry forward that energy and ambition. Everyone interested in contributing and thinking along is warmly invited to join.
