In the past, the development of North Brabant into an innovative and ambitious region was accommodated by active spatial decentralization. Today, administrators and civilians face a number of major social challenges. The development of an alternative spatial plan and the redevelopment of the 'urban carpet' are imperative. To investigate what that alternative plan and those new development principles may be, BrabantStad (a coalition of the Province of North Brabant and the cities of Eindhoven, Helmond, Den Bosch, Breda and Tilburg), four Water Boards and the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam have joined forces.
